چکیده

The efficacy of neem oil on the mortality, growth and feeding responses of epilachna beetle showed that all the larval instars were susceptible to this oil. The LC50 values were higher at 3 instar and it was lowest on 1 instar. The LT50 values of oil increases proportionately with increasing larval age and with decreasing oil concentration. Neem oil significantly prolonged larval and pupal periods and some of the treated larvae never reached to the pupae. Pupal recovery and adult emergence were greatly reduced in treated larvae. In addition, neem oil also reduced the food consumption of this beetle by acting as feeding deterrent.

Effect of Temperature on the Bahaviour of Epilachna Beetle (Epilachna dodecastigma Wied.) among Different Brinjal Varieties

An experiment was carried out to study the effect of temperature on biology, oviposition and feeding behaviour as well as host preference of Epilachna beetle, Epilachna dodecastigma (Wied.) on eight varieties of brinjal, Solanum melongena Linn. from November, 2009 to June, 2010 maintaining controlled temperatures of 15oC, 25oC and 30oC using an incubator in the Department of Entomology, BAU, My...

A new species of Pediobius (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae) from Epilachna (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) in Costa Rica.

A new and morphologically very distinct species of Pediobius from Costa Rica is described. The new species (P. nishidai) is unique among New World species of Pediobius in having the propodeum elongated and extended backwards (i.e. with an elongated nucha). The entire type series (15 females, two males) was reared from a single prepupa of Epilachna mexicana and it has been concluded that the new...

Antifeedant and insecticidal activities of selected plant extracts against Epilachna beetle, Henosepilachna vigintioctopunctata (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae)

Six different indigenous plants were screened for antifeedant and insecticidal activity against fourth instar larvae of Epilachna beetle, Henosepilachna vigintioctopunctata, which is a severe pest on brinjal. Among the plants screened, Achyranthes aspera showed higher activity against the selected pest. Ethyl acetate extracts of A. aspera showed higher antifeedant index and insecticidal activit...

A Sweet Story: Bean pod mottle virus Transmission Dynamics by Mexican Bean Beetles (Epilachna varivestis)

Worldwidecrop losses due to plant diseases exceed $60 billion annually. Next to fungi, viruses represent the greatest contributor to those losses, and these are transmitted in nature primarily by insects. Mexican bean beetles (Epilachna varivestis) are formidable pests of soybean, as well as efficient vectors of several soybean-infecting viruses, including Bean podmottle virus (BPMV). Beetle-bo...
